Kayla Fontenot placed fourth in pentathlon at Houston meet

HOUSTON - McNeese State's Kayla Fontenot finished fourth in the women's pentathlon during the opening day of the Houston Intercollegiate indoor track and field meet on Friday.

            The Cowgirl sophomore scored 3,122 points in the five events, posting a top effort of second place in the shot put at 36-10.25.  She finished in the top five in two of the other four with a fifth place in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.51 and fifth in the long jump at 16-8.5

            Fontenot was also sixth in the high jump at 4-11 and placed ninth in the 800 meters with a 2:46.48 clocking.

            Also in the women's pentathlon for the Cowgirls, Alyssa Cotton finished 11th with 2,386 points.  Her top event finish was a fifth place in the shot put at 32-1.

            In the opening day of the heptathlon for the men, Napoleon Robicheaux led the Cowboys and was in ninth place with 2,440 points.  Jim Marcantel was in 13th place with 2,266 points.

            Robichaux tied for sixth place in the high jump (6-0 ½), was eighth in the 60 meter dash (7.40), eighth in the long jump (19-5 ½) and 12th in the shot put (31-6 ¾).  Marcantel was ninth in the 60 meters  (7.42), 13th in the long jump (18-1/4), 11th in the shot put (l32-9 ¾) and 12th in the high jump (5-5 ¼).

            In other events for the Cowboys, Michael Washington ran second in the "B" division 400 meters with a 50.53 clocking while Ronald Stine was seventh in the 200 meters at 22.77 and Rylan Thomason was 21st at 23.38.

            For the Cowgirls, Racheal Easton ran ninth in the 400 meters at 1:02.53, Ashleigh Wells was 10th in the 200 at 26.6 and Paige Lynch was 11th with a 26.86 clocking.  Erin Kleckley was 11th in the pole vault at 10-2 and Emily Lewis was 13th at 10-2.
