Lafayette's Khia Williams Wins Performer Of The Week!

Coming into this indoor season, Lafayette's Khia Williams was not a name on our radar. However, after winning the 55m at the McNeese Indoor No. 1, we quickly took notice. She made last week's MileSplit Performer of the Week poll and her friends, family, teammates, and fellow Mighty Lions at Lafayette did the rest. She won the poll in a close race getting 39% of the vote.

Huntington's Demetria Harris was second with 36% of the vote.

Williams will advance to make the ballot for MileSplit LA Girls' Indoor Athlete of the Year

On Saturday, Williams had another strong performance at the LSU HS Qualifier. She finished No.18 in the 60m with a time of 8.04. Her highest finish in an individual event came in the 400m where she finished No. 7 with a 1:00.29.

She also ran the scratch leg on the Lady Lions' 4x200m relay, which finished in 1:44.95 to earn the runner-up spot on the podium.

Scotlandville won the relay with a time of 1:42.92.

We caught up with Williams after her appearance in the 60m prelims and this is what she had to say about the support she has received in the MileSplit LA Perfomer of the Week Poll.

"Since considering that my dream is go pro, seeing the community support me in such an unexpected way--I never expected to by a finalist for athlete of the week-- it's nice to have the community behind you supporting your dream," Williams said.

Williams will be back in action this week on Saturday at the McNeese Indoor No. 2.
