Alex Gomez and Kennedi Burks Win MileSplit LA's POTW Poll!

BARBE'S KENNEDI BURKS SPRINTS TO A WIN IN THE MERCHANT FARMERS BANK RELAYS!

For the second week in a row, a Bossier Parish runner has won MileSplit LA's Boys' Performer of the Week poll. Last week, it was Airline's Jeremiah Boudreaux who won. This week, Parkway distance runner  Alex Gomez was the winner getting 33% of the vote.

The runner-up was Alexandria's Jaiden Lindsey, who had 19% of the vote.

Earlier this month, Gomez picked up the first win of his high school career by winning the Simsboro Tiger Relays 1600m with a personal record 4:44.62. This weekend at the Texas Distance Festival in Southlake, Tx., Gomez went even faster, running a 4:39.

In the MileSplit LA Girls' Performer of the Week poll, it was a closer race as Barbe's Kennedi Burks, who received 25% of the vote, held off Sterlington freshman Ana Robinson (22%). BTW's Janayah Dotson had a strong showing in the poll as well, receiving 20% of the vote and finishing third.

After three 400m races during the outdoor season, Burks is undefeated. More impressively, she is improving nearly a second every week. Her 56.64 at the Oil City Relays on Wednesday ranks No. 1 in Louisiana and is No. 10 nationally among all sophomores.

While there was no poll in the relays, the MileSplit LA Content Team to give two relay teams who had epic performances at national indoor meets the nod for MileSplit LA Relay Team of the Week. Edna Karr's 4x400 is the MileSplit LA Boys' Relay Team of the Week and Scotlandville's 4x400 is the MileSplit LA Girls' Relay Team of the Week.

The Karr team of Markel Myles,  Bryson Osborne, Camren Hardy, and LA Dennis ran a 3:19.11 at the Nike Indoor Nationals and finished second to Loughlin Lions Track Club (NY) 3:18.83. The time gives the Cougars a No. 1 ranking all-time in the MileSplit LA database.

Scotlandville's girls 4x400 ran the No. 2 in Louisiana history with a 3:55.74 at the 2023 LHSAA Division I State Indoor Championships, but the Lady Hornets went even faster at the New Balance Nationals Indoors running a 3:52.50, surpassing John Curtis for the No. 1 all-time spot in the MileSplit LA database.

The team consisted of juniors Makeriah Harris, Sade Gray, Layden Jack, and freshman Dynasty Wilfred.

All winners will move on to compete for March Athlete of the Month and Relay Team of the Month in three weeks.

Congratulations to all of the winners, and we want to thank everyone for voting.
