      When looking at the number of high school girls returning in the sprints for the 2023 season, it doesn't take long to call the roll of sprinters who ran sub eight seconds. The leader heading into the season will be Scotlandville junior Sade Gray, who had a season best of 7.73 in the prelims at the LHSAA Indoor State Championships. 
     Another junior is No. 2 on the returners list. Huntington's Demetria Harris had a coming out party in 2022 season. It started in the indoor season, where she ran a 7.76, finishing second to the University of Arkansas' Ariane Linton, who competed for Dutchtown last year. 
     Harris would go on to win her first two state titles during the outdoor season, winning both the 100m and the 100 hurdles. She also finished third in the both the long jump and 200m on her way to Track MVP honors.
