MILESPLIT LA FUTURE STAR: LCCP's Kirfan-Loryn Williams!

LCCP'S KIRFAN-LORYN WILLIAMS RUNS HER WAY TO A SECOND PLACE FINISH AT THE WARHAWK INVITATIONAL

Saturday was a long day for Lake Charles College Prep's Kirfan-Loryn Williams. She had to get up at 2:15am in order to get ready for her trip to Saturday's 2022 Warhawk Invitational in Monroe. She left Lake Charles about 3:30am.

Williams overcame the early morning road trip to finish second in the 5K race, running a 22:43.

Williams is this week's MileSplit Louisiana Future Star.

"I felt like I did good," Williams said after her race. "I know I can do better. I can learn what I can do better at each meet and go to practice and work harder and harder."

That plan has paid off so far for Williams as she has finished first in one race and second in two others.

She has been able to find success on the course, despite her age.

"I feel like it's an advantage because a freshman doesn't have that much in the school you go to," Williams said. "They think you're fresh meat and just a baby. But if you do sports and work hard and your name is known in the school, they will all see you and everyone will know you."

If Williams continues to show improvement, it won't be long before she is known throughout the state.
