DES MOINES – McNeese State's David Rooney finished third in the 5,000 meter run at the Drake Relays here Thursday and set a personal best timing along the way.
The Cowboy freshman posted a 14:23.8 clocking in the event and that is the second fastest time ever by a McNeese performer.
Only the 14:15.6 run by Daniel Laquerre in 1980 is faster.
On Friday in the Drake Relays, McNeese's Ben Chretien will participate in the javelin event. He's set to throw at 10:45 a.m.
The other Cowboys and Cowgirls will take part in the Northwestern State Relays in Natchitoches on Saturday.
