Ben Chretien becomes second leading javelin thrower in McNeese history

McNeese State’s Ben Chretien and Jacob Domingue produced career marks during Saturday’s running of the Texas Relays in Austin.

Chretien finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 229-3 and Domingue was eighth in the shot put at 55-2 3/4.

Both athletes have now produced NCAA regional qualifying marks this season.

Chretien’s throw makes him the second longest javelin thrower in McNeese history, trailing only Chris Hill who set the school record of 237-4 in 2007.

This is since the new javelin went into effect in the 1980s.

Corey White of USC won the javelin with a throw of 272-2 while Northwestern State’s Cody Fillinich was second at 235-1.

In the shot put, the winner was Nate Hunter of Northeastern with a throw of 61-6 3/4 while Kemuel Morales of Texas State was second at 59-6 1/4.

Both athletes will be back in action next week when McNeese takes part in the Southern University Pelican Relays in Baton Rouge.
