Cajuns Conclude Stay at Tiger Relays

BATON ROUGE – Chris Roy placed first in the pole vault to highlight the final day of competition for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field team at the 2009 LSU Tiger Relays held at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Roy collected a first place finish for the second straight week in the pole vault (won in Louisiana Classics last weekend). He recorded a vault of 16-06.75 which was six inches higher than the second place finisher.

On the women’s side the Ragin’ Cajuns grabbed three individual Top 5 finishes.

Paula Parker clocked in at 4:45.08 in the 1500 meter run to claim third place out of 23 competitors. Jasmine Anderson ran the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.44 seconds to finish fifth and in the triple jump Jasmine Manuel’s jump of 40-06.00 was good enough to put her fourth. Manuel qualified for the Regional Meet.

Louisiana saw three relay teams turn in Top 5 finishes.

The men’s distance medley group consisting of Reese Lee, Brandon Thibodeaux, Jaron Ortego and Stuart Theriot came in fourth with a time of 10:33.19. The women’s distance medley group consisting of Jamie Blue, Paula Parker, Lina Futi and April Colomb placed fourth, also, and beat out two Sun Belt schools (Arkansas State and South Alabama).

In the men’s 4x200 meter relay which included Kelvan Turner, Roderick Houston, Joey Wynn and Sean Ruth carried and passed the baton around the track in 1:26.65 to finish fifth out of 11 teams.

Louisiana continues its 2009 outdoor season next weekend as they travel to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the Tiger Track Classic Friday-Saturday, April 3-4.
