Christi McRae wins the 400 meter dash

HOUSTON – Christi McRae produced the only title for McNeese State during the Southland Conference indoor track and field championship meet on Saturday.


    The Cowgirl standout won the 400 meter run in a clocking of 55.06 while Cowboys Jordan Neil, David Rooney and Jacob Domingue produced second place efforts.


    The McNeese Cowboys totaled 39 points to place eighth in the men’s division while the Cowgirls were eighth in the women’s bracket with 35 points.


    “It was a little lower than we anticipated,” said coach Brendon Gilroy about the teams finish.  “The girls did come up two spots from last year.  But we’re a young team and we competed well.”


    UTSA was the men’s team champion with 120 1/2 points and Stephen F. Austin won the women’s crown with 158 points.


    McRae scored 19 of her team’s points as she also placed third in the 200 meter dash with a 24.80 effort and she was sixth in the 60 meter dash with a 7.76.


    Neil ran second in the mile run at 4:18.22 and Rooney was second in the 3000 meters with an 8:28.58.  Domingue posted a career best of 56-11 1/4 in finishing as runnerup in the shot put.


    Also collecting points for the Cowboys were Charles Jackson with a seventh place in the 60 meter dash (6.94) and eighth in the 200 meters (22.82), Aaron DeBourg with an eighth place in the 400 meters (51.13) and Johnathan Koenck with an eighth in the mile run at 4:24.03.


    Others producing points for the Cowgirls were Amy Guinn with a third place in the 3000 meter run at a season best 10:17.79 and an eighth in the mile run at 5:26.88 and DeAnn Washington with a third place in the shot put at 45-5 3/4.
