McNeese's David Rooney wins 3000 meter run at Arkansas indoor meet

A first place by David Rooney in the men’s 3,000 meter run highlighted McNeese State’s performance Saturday at the University of Arkansas Razorback indoor track and field meet.


    The Cowboy freshman clocked in an 8:28.44 to take the top prize, leading the Cowboy contingent which also had Kenneth Pierce place ninth at 8:51.01 and Ryan Barrow 11th at 8:55.74.


    The Cowgirls had two, top 10 finishes during the day.  Christi McRae placed ninth in the 400 meter dash with a 55.13 clocking and Amy Guinn ran ninth in the women’s mile at 5:14.10.


    Also for the Cowgirls, Tinette Burger placed 11th in the 3000 meters at 11:04.31 and Kayla Fontenot ran a 9.69 in the 60 meter hurdles and Whitney McKinnie posted a 59.0 in the 400 meters.


    Other results for the Cowboys had Johnathan Koenck finish 10th in the mile run at 4:22.39, Ronald Stine run 7.11 in the 60 meters, Torian Lindsey 7.22 in the 60 meters and Jordan Neil a 4:22.81 for 18th place in the mile championship event.


    Cowboy assistant coach Jon Fagan participate in the men’s heptathlon and finished sixth with 4,593 points.


    Next up for McNeese will be Bayou Bengal Invitational in Houston on Saturday, January 31.
