McNeese State’s men’s cross country team is ranked No. 6 in the south central division this week while the Cowgirls are ranked 14th in their division.
It’s the highest ranking for the Cowboys this season and makes them the third highest ranked Southland Conference team. Lamar is ranked fourth while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is ranked fifth.
Texas leads the men’s division with Texas A&M second and Arkansas third.
In the women’s division, the Cowgirls trail conference opponents Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (7th), SFA (9th), Texas State (12th) and UT Arlington (13th).
Both McNeese teams will be off this coming week and will return to action Oct. 18 at the Sam Houston State Invitational.
Last week both the Cowboys and the Cowgirls competed in the Auburn Invitational in Alabama. The Cowboys finished seventh with David Rooney the lead runner with a 24th place finish in the 8K run with a 23:44.57 clocking.
The Cowgirls placed 15th and leading them in 44th place was Tinette Burger with a 17:43.77 effort for 5K.
