AUBURN, AL – McNeese State’s Cowboys ran seventh and the Cowgirls placed 15th in the Auburn cross country classic on Saturday.
The Cowboys scored 285 points and defeated such teams as Louisiana Tech, SFA and LSU. Host Auburn won the men’s title with 31 points followed by Washington with 49, Iowa 72, Clemson 155, Georgia Tech 156 and Georgia 241. LA Tech had 286, Emory 294, SFA 301 and LSU 341.
In the women’s division, the Cowgirls scored 473 points for their 15th place. Washington won that event with 19 points and was followed by Oregon State with 98, Iowa 99, Georgia 138, Purdue 158, Auburn 162, Clemson 195, SFA 234, Samford 262, Ga Tech 274, Emory 379, Tulane 387, Florida State 441, Kennesaw State 444 and McNeese.
The lead runner for the Cowboys was David Rooney with a 24th place on a 23:44.57 clocking for 8K. Jordan Neil was next with 24:26.75 for 56th place. Johnathan Koenck finished 84th at 24:58.26 and Michael Dyer was 86th at 25:01.06.
Other finishes for the Cowboys had Ryan Barrow with 25:23.54 for 104th, Kenneth Pierce with 25:38.93 for 114th, Kevin Laughlin 26:14.73 for 143rd and Matt Fontenot at 26:57.59 for 170th.
Tinette Burger led the Cowgirls with a 17:43.77 clocking for 44th place in their 5K. Christi Citizen was next with 18:53.2 for 116th and Candice McCormick finished 125th with a 19:00.01 clocking.
Also for the Cowgirls, Alvy Carragher was 157th at 19:35.12, Amy Guinn ran 165th at 19:56.13, Aisling Casey was 167th at 20:04.44, Lyndsey Monteith was 176th at 20:31.22 and D’Anna Lambert finished 196th at 21:47.88.
