BATON ROUGE – McNeese State freshman David Rooney had the best run for the university at the LSU cross country classic on Saturday, the rookie from Ireland finishing fourth in the 8K run with a 25:24.9 clocking.
LSU won the men’s team title with 54 points while Louisiana Tech was second with 56 and the Cowboys scored 70. Stephen Scullion, the top runner for the Cowboys, did not compete.
The Cowgirls didn’t fare as well although they did finish fourth as a team. Standout Tinette Burger did not compete because of an injury and Amy Guinn dropped out after the race had started.
Houston won the women’s 6K run with 32 points while Tulane was second with 61, Southeastern Louisiana had 73 and the Cowgirls 111.
Candice McCormick led the Cowgirls with a 23:28.2 clocking for 15th place.
Others finishing in the top 20 for the Cowboys were Jordan Neil who ran 26:19.8 for 11th place and Kenneth Pierce who posted a 26:59.9 for 13th.
The only other Cowgirl in the top 20 was Christi Citizen with a 23:44.4 effort for 16th place.
