Loyola Cross Country Opens Season at Azalea City Classic

Mobile, Ala.- Loyola’s cross country teams finally opened the season Saturday morning at the 36th Annual Azalea City Classic held on the campus of the University of South Alabama.



The women finished seventh out of eight teams with 175 points. The Wolfpack was behind conference foe Spring Hill College who finished with 152 points, but ahead of Mobile as the Rams totaled 200 points in the meet.



Madeline Falcone led Loyola in her first meet for the Wolfpack running the 5,000 meter course in a time of 21:37 good for 20th place. Lauren Fereday was the second Loyola competitor over the line with a time of 23:26 in 33rd place. Other participants for the Wolfpack included Rachel Leonard 24:01 (38th), Melissa Wilson 24:46 (43rd), Olivia Taylor 25:22 (45th), Annelise Rickert 25:41 (49th), Joilynn Hollies 26:22 (52nd ), Kayla Cox 29:10 (55th), and Kristen Francis 31:46 (56th).



Loyola had four competitors in the men’s meet- all making their debut for the maroon and gold. Chris Kelliher led the Wolfpack with a time of 18:55 in 44th place. Robert Hayden completed the course in a time of 20:04 in 54th place. Trevor McQueen and Justin Fecke finished back to back with McQueen coming in at 20:18 and Fecke in 21:07 to finish in 56th and 57th respectively. The Loyola men did not post a team score.


Loyola’s next scheduled meet is Saturday, September 27th at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge.
