Busljeta Sets School Record in Hammer on Day One of C-USA Championships

EL PASO, Texas - Junior Katarina Busljeta threw a school record 50.24 meters in the hammer throw competition to lead the Tulane University track and field team Thursday on the first day of the Conference USA Outdoor Championships held at Kidd Field.
Busljeta's mark, which equals 164 feet, 10 inches, tops the school record she set earlier in the season by more than 10 feet.
Senior Aubrey Phillips finished third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:56.25, while freshman Laurie Dalrymple placed eighth with a time of 38:19.05.
Sophomore Arielle Minor sits in third place after four events on the first day of heptathlon competition with 2,832 points. She finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.43 (786 points), fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.54m (5 feet 00.50 inches; 666 points), second in the shot put with a throw of 11.76m (38-07; 645 points) and fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.72 (735 points).
Through one day of competition, the Green Wave stands second in team scoring with 11 points on the weight of the performances of Busljeta, Phillips and Dalrymple. The C-USA Championships continue Friday and Saturday in El Paso, with the first Tulane athlete scheduled to compete at 10:30 a.m. CDT when Minor makes a move for the conference championship in the second half of the heptathlon.
