Small McNeese group produces good performances at Bob Cole meet in Lafayette

McNeese State's small entry list in Wednesday's Bob Cole track and field meet at Louisiana-Lafayette produced some big performances.

Two Cowboys and two Cowgirls claimed first places while some also came up with career or near career bests.

It was a short list of participants Coach Brendon Gilroy took to the Lafayette meet as most took the week off in preparation for the upcoming conference meet.

Steven Scullion won the 2000 meter steeplechase with a clocking of 5:58 and Freddie Hannie claimed the hammer throw for the men at 187-10.

DeAnn Washington was a double winner, taking the women's shot put at 40-1 and the discus at 140-0.

Julie Buller went a career best 11-5 3/4 for a first place finish in the women's pole vault and in the same event Amy Aguillard was second at 11-0 and both Brittany Kleckley and Emily Lewis clearned 10-6.

Also for the women, Amanda LeJeune went a career best 125 in the javelin.

Johnathan Koeneck finished second in the men's steeplechase at 6:17, Kenneth Pierce was fourth at 6:37 and Matt Fontenot was sixth at 7:00.

Jacob Domingue placed second in the shot put at 46-10 and was also second in the discus at 136-02 while Ben Chretien went 174-10 for third place in the javelin.

Next up for the Cowboys and the Cowgirls will be the Southland Conference championship meet which begins on May 9 in Huntsville, TX.
