Women's Track and Field Competes at Rice Twilight/Drake Relays

HOUSTON - On an atypical day of competition Thursday, senior Shanon Beelendorf and the 4x100-meter relay team each placed first at the J. Fred Duckett/Rice Twilight meet, and senior Aubrey Phillips led Green Wave runners at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Phillips finished the 5,000-meter run in 17:16.98 for 11th place, and freshman Laurie Dalrymple ran a personal-best time of 17:29.92 to finish 15th at the prestigious Drake Relays, which was held at Drake Stadium. Beelendorf won the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 00.35seconds, while the 4x100-meter relay team won the event in 46.97 seconds at the Rice Twilight, which was held at the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium.

Sophomore Valencia Wilson finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.01, while fellow sophomore Olivia Kizzee placed fifth with a time of 57.41. Senior Andrea Rosemond finished seventh in the 100m with a time of 12.26, and finished in the same place in the 200m with a time of 25.19, while sophomore Arielle Minor ran the 200m in a time of 27.21.

Freshman Rebecca Coady placed sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:33.46, while fellow freshman Peggy Keplinger set a personal record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20m (10-06.00). Minor, who competes in the heptathlon, set a personal record in the long jump with a mark of 5.08m (16-08.00), and placed 13th in the javelin with a throw of 25.70m (84-03.75).
