Coady Sets Track & Field Benchmark at Yellow Jacket Invitational
March 29, 2008
ATLANTA - In a rain-shortened outdoor meet, freshman Rebecca Coady set the school standard in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Tulane University women's track and field team Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational held at the George C. Griffin Track at Georgia Tech.
Coady is only the third Tulane student-athlete to run the 3,000m steeplechase in the history of the event, and she set the benchmark by which all future Tulane steeplechase runs will be measured - 11 minutes, 29.68 seconds.
Rain showered intermittently throughout the day, and athletes were forced to warm up and then take breaks because of the rain. The bad weather finally resulted in meet officials deciding the call off the final five events of the day.
Additionally for the Green Wave, senior Andrea Rosemond ran 12.23 seconds and Jasmine Momoh ran 12.62 in the 100-meter dash. In the 400m, sophomore Olivia Kizzee placed 11th with a time of 57.09, senior Kyra Lobbins finished 13th in 57.21 seconds, freshman Aieshia Brooks placed 14th with a time of 57.26, junior Vanessa Kienast ran 57.58 and sophomore Valencia Wilson ran 1:00.18.
Sophomore Arielle Minor ran the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.92, and freshman Caitlin Hornbeck ran the 1,500m in 5:46.66. Several more Green Wave student-athletes were scheduled to run, but some of those events were among those cut as a result of the rain showers.
The Green Wave return to action next weekend when the team splits its squad between two meets. Further details will be provided when they are available. For all Tulane track and field news, interviews and results, visit www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
