Darrick Brown goes 25 feet in the long jump at LSU Relays

Baton Rouge - McNeese State's Darrick and Marcus Brown both posted NCAA regional qualifying efforts by finishing second and third in the long jump at the LSU Relays on Friday.
Darrick Brown was second with a jump of 25-0 and Marcus was third at 24-5. Both efforts were career bests for the brothers who highlighted McNeese's efforts during Friday's opening day.
Both finished behind Olympian Walter Davis who jumped over 26 feet to win the event.
Mark Hoey produced McNeese's only first place as he won the 5,000 meter run in a 15:25 clocking while Freddie Hannie finished third in the hammer throw at 180-2.
Other performances for the Cowboys had John Jamail with a fourth place in the hammer at 173-5 and a fifth in the shot put at 53-2, Jacob Domingue with a sixth in the shot at 50-3, Darrick Brown with 6-4 3/4 in the high jump for fifth place and Kenny Pierce with a 16:22 for fourth place in the 5,000 meters.
For the Cowgirls, Lindsay Brooks had a seventh place finish in the high jump at 5-3.
Sprinter Christi McRae qualified for the finals in the women's 100 meters by running 11.95 and Jessica GonzalezPons qualified for the finals in the 100 meter hurdles with a 14.83 clocking.
The meet will continue on Saturday.
