Tinette Burger returned to action for McNeese State on Saturday and finished second in the women's division of the Great American Race in Birmingham, AL while the Cowboys placed third as a team.

The Cowgirl freshman turned in an 18:48 clocking to run second by only five seconds. Teammate Amy Guinn was the next Cowgirl across the line with a 20:35 clocking in the 5K run for 13th place.

Burger has won two races this season but missed the previous one because of an injury.

Paced by Mark Hoey, the Cowboys finished third as a team in the men's 8K race. Hoey was seventh overall and was the fifth collegiate to cross the line.

The Cowboys pulled in 64 points for their third place finish. Central Michigan took the team title with 26 points while the Atlantic Track Club was second with 46.

Also for the Cowboys, Stephen Scullion ran 13th and Alisdair Russell was 22nd.

The Cowgirls did not enter the required five participants to qualify for the team title in the women's division.
