CONWAY, Arkansas – McNeese senior sprinter Jasmine Webb became the second Cowgirl runner in school history to garner High Point Scorer honors after she repeated as Southland Conference champion in the 100 meters and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay team as well as finishing second in the 200 meters to lead the Cowgirls on the final day of the SLC outdoor track and field championships here Sunday.
Webb finished the meet with 20.5 points scored to tie with Sam Houston State's Lygia Foreman and joins Cowgirl distance runner Sita Waru (2000 and 2001) as repeat scoring champions. She also became the first Cowgirl to win gold in the 100 meters in consecutive seasons.
The Dallas native set a new personal record in the sprint with a time of 11.44 while teammate Danielle Eppsfinished sixth in the event with a time of 11.73, also a PR.
The two teamed up with Meagan Moore and Simone Johnson to win gold in the 4x100-meter relays with a time of 45.48.
Overall, the Cowgirls placed fifth in the team standings with a total of 66 points. Sam Houston State won the women's team championship with 176 points followed by Stephen F. Austin at 132, Northwestern State with 75 and Central Arkansas at 68 to round out the top five.
On the men's side, the Cowboys placed seventh with 52 points. Southeastern Louisiana edged out Stephen F. Austin for the team title by a 157-156 margin. Sam Houston was third with 96, Abilene Christian fourth with 63 and Lamar and Northwestern State tied for fifth with 57 points each.
Webb just missed out on defending her championship in the 200 meters after she clocked a 24.06 to finish just .09 seconds behind SHSU's Foreman for the gold medal.
Courtnei Carter was the only other Cowgirl to get on the medal stand after she placed third in the triple jump with a personal record leap of 40 feet, 8 ¾ inches.
Only one Cowboy athlete took the medal stand on Sunday as Tristan Joynes earned the silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.19. DeMarcus Cobb placed seventh in the event to score points after running a PR time of 15.16.
Other scorers for the men saw Luke Johnston finish fifth in the 1500-meters with a time of 3:57.54 and was eighth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:01.01.
Hiram Morales posted an outdoor personal record in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, 10 ¾ inches to place fifth and the men's 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Kartavius Hamilton, Cherby Laguerre, Gary Blanchard and Jared Mack, ran a 41.97 to finish sixth
