Chris Hill and Marcus Brown Qualify For NCAA Regional Meet In Season Opener

NATCHITOCHES-- McNeese State's Chris Hill and Marcus Brown qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet and Freddie Hannie and Stephanie Gilbert set school records in their respective events here Wednesday at the Northwestern State Relays in the Cowboys and Cowgirls' season opener.

Hill won the javelin event and qualified for regionals with a throw of 221'-11'' and Brown won the long jump and also qualified for regionals with a leap of 24'-9".

Other event winners for the Cowboys were John Jamail in the shot put with a throw of 54-8 1/4. The Cowboys had three of the top 5 finishers in this event. Jan Bicanic placed third (50-6) and Jimbo Hill placed fourth (48'-10 3/4"). Bicanic also placed third in the discus with a toss of 164'-2 1/2".

Jon Fagan placed second in the triple jump (23'-2 1/2"), third in the 110 hurdles (14.99), fifth in the Javelin (161-1), 12th in the discus (114-1) and was a member of the 4x100 meter relay team that placed 5th with a clocking of 42.19.

Hannie

Hannie placed fourth in the hammer throw with a school record breaking throw of 152-3 1/2 breaking his own school record of 147.2 he set last season.

Gilbert

Gilbert finished second with her school record throw of 157-11 1/2 also in the hammer throw. Gilbert broke her own school record of 155-3 she set last season.

 

Other Cowgirls winning their events were Lake Mock in the javelin (136-10), Katrina Buslieta in the discus (142-8) and Sonia Clark in the 3000 meter run (10:43.02). Clark also finished second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:58.42. DeAnn Washington finished right behind Buslieta in the discus with a throw of 140'-10 1/2".
