NEW ORLEANS – Ragin' Cajuns cross country freshman Logan Pearce earned his first weekly honor on Wednesday when he was named the Sun Belt Conference Male Runner of the Week in a release by the league office.
The selection of Pearce, from West Monroe, marked the first time a Ragin' Cajuns runner was honored since another Louisiana freshman, Jake Simmons, was tabbed on Sept. 21, 2004.
Pearce finished as the Ragin' Cajuns top runner for the third time in as many events on the season after finishing eighth overall at the McNeese State Cowboy Stampede. Pearce covered the 4-mile course in 20 minutes, 20.42 seconds to help the Ragin' Cajuns to a fifth-place overall finish in the 12-team event.
"Logan has done an unbelievable job for us this year," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "He came in as a freshman in excellent shape from summer workouts, and it has really paid off for him. This recognition is a testament to his work ethic and attitude."
Pearce and the Ragin' Cajuns will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they compete in the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
