Salute to Seniors -Neal Fitzpatrick - Jesuit High School

It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Bayou State. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race is definitely the 2013 Catholic High Meet because I broke 15 minutes for the first time and we had an unexpected team win.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Cole Stafford

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is winning state my senior year. Having placed 3rd my sophomore year and 2nd my junior year, it was a huge relief to finally win something I’ve been striving for my entire high school career.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

Absolutely nothing.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was my back injury during my sophomore track season. I still deal with it today.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my team and my coaches. Nothing would have been possible without them.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

My advice would be to stay humble. It’s one of the greatest forms of sportsmanship.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

Coach Kernion will be the best coach I ever had. He trained me to the last inch my body could take, but it was so worth it. None of my accomplishments would of happened without him.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending St. Louis University to study meteorology and be a part of the cross country and track teams.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I want to say thank you to my parents for being with me every step of the way throughout my running career.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

To those still competing, run your race and don’t focus on others. It really helps you out mentally during a race.
