Salute to Seniors - DJ Woodard - Catholic High School

It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Bayou State. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

What was your most memorable race?
300m hurdle race at the 2013 Grizzly Relays in that race I broke two records that I had been chasing my whole highschool career.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition over my four years in highschool is Jessie Cole we always battled with each other from summer track at age 9 until the 4x4 at regionals this year.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was being the leader of the Catholic High team in 2013. Being the one to set the standard and example for my peers who were just as talented meant a lot.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would work on hurdling with both legs and weightlifting. I was not strong enough in those areas and I feel as if those cost me the state title in the 300m hurdles this year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The most difficult obstacles I had to overcome was my mind. Once I learned to run my own race wins came easier.

What will you miss the most?
My teammates and peers! Their support pushed me to being better and ultimately garnering a college scholarship.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?
Never Give up and put your all in practice. Perseverance is a trait that is used in life not only track and Practice mirrors the performance that will come in the race.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?
My coach made me appreciate the talents god has given me and pushed me to be better on the track and in the classroom.

What are your college plans?
Go to southeastern and earn a degree in kinesiology (still debating between sports management and human health promotion) and win conference several times.

Who would you like to say thank you to?
Everyone who has supported and awarded wisdom onto me.
