Salute to Seniors - Jacob Chicola - Buckeye High School

It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Bayou State. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

What was your most memorable race?

First of all, my most memorable race is by far the state cc meet my sophomore year. It was the first time I won a state title and I was not favored at all.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition was Leonel Moreno, basically because we have ran at the state cc and track meet together since the 8th grade.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

I believe my greatest accomplishment was winning state in cc 3 consecutive years.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

If I had to change anything, I would have changed my training. I put in more quality work outs than quantity. I would rather have put in more miles instead.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My most difficult obstacles were probably just small injuries.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss the high school race environment the most. But now I can look forward to college racing.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would tell younger athletes to stay confident and believe that they can be the best. Every elite runner was in their shoes at one time.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach had a close relationship since he was a distant runner as well. He would support me with any decision I made.

What are your college plans?

In college, I plan to get a masters in engineering and hopefully winning a team conference title.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would first of all like to say thanks to my parents, especially for all the times they would bring me across the country to run a race. Next I would like to thank my coaches and everybody else that has supported me.
