Hughes, McDonald top squads at Centenary Invitational

 

BOSSIER CITY, La. – Julie Hughes recorded a top-10 finish for Centenary and Mile McDonald led the Gents in 16thplace at the Centenary Invitational Saturday morning.

 

Hughes led the Ladies to their best score of the year (84), finishing the 6k race in 26:37.59. She finished 20 seconds ahead of teammate Rachel Olson. LeTourneau’s Nicole Leman (23:18.05) won the women’s race by more than 90 seconds over UT Tyler’s Brittany Brunson, but it was UT Tyler’s men and women who took the team championships.

Nicklas Huff won the men’s 8k in 26:45.80, outlasting teammate Will Krogman by 10 seconds. The Patriots men accounted for seven of the top eight finishers while the women put five in the top nine.

The Ladies wrapped up their second straight top-three finish after tying for third at the NSU Invitational Monday, led by Hughes’ top-10 finish. Christy Wolterman capped a 19th-place finish in 29:32.02, followed by Delilah Montero (29:52.75) and Hayley Schneider (30:31.66).

McDonald (28:25.40) led the Gents to a fourth-place finish in the four-team men’s field, which tallied 41 runners. Senior Chad Nelson finished second for Centenary, 19th overall, in 29:54.9.

Both Centenary teams return to action Oct. 19 at the Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
