McDonald, Batson Lead Centenary Cross Country at Host Invitational

 SHREVEPORT-The Centenary men's and women's cross country teams competed among a competitive field in their own Centenary Invitational on Saturday at Disc Golf Course. The Gents finished sixth with a score of 181 and the Ladies took eighth with a total of 191.

Leading the way in the men's 8K for Centenary was sophomore Miles McDonald with a 19th place finish and a time of 27:24.

He was followed by junior Robert Poole in 33rd with a finish time of 29:08 and freshman Bradley Trimble in 39th with a time of 29:47.

Rounding out the Gents runners were sophomore Sam Fell in 41st place with a time of 29:59 and senior David Micinski in 49th with a time of 31:47.

Capturing first place as a team was Louisiana Tech with 43 points, followed by North Texas with 62, while Lon Morris College took third with 85 points.

Patrick Strong of UNT took first with a time of 25:02.

In the women's 6K race,junior Jacquelyn Batson continued to pace the Ladies in 30th place, finishing with a time of 27:05.

Placing in the Top 40 were junior Mellynn Baker (28:44) in 38th, senior Jessica Marquart (28:46) in 39th and junior Bonnie Cook (28:56) in 40th. Sophomore Kelsey Regan finished 44th and in a time of 29:29 to round of the Centenary competitors.

Grambling captured team honors with 52 points, while North Texas took second with 57 points, followed by Lon Morris College in third with 80 points.

UNT's Ingrid Mollenkept won individual honors on the women's side with a time of 22:10.

Centenary will take part in the Demon Invitational hosted by Northwestern State on Friday, Oct. 22 with the Ladies set to begin at 4 pm, followed by the Gents at 4:45 pm.
