Woods And Woodhead Lead Teams to District 1-3A Win!

WOSSMAN'S JOHNNY WOODS (3RD FROM RIGHT) SPRINTS TO A '22 LHSAA 100m TITLE!

141 was the magic number at the District 1-3A Meet at Sterlington High School on Wednesday where both the Wossman boys and Sterlington girls scored the same number of points--141--to take home the championship trophy.

Wossman was led by defending LHSAA Class 3A 100m state champion Johnny Woods, who scored 25 points. The Lady Panthers were led by Andie Woodhead, who scored 32.5 points.

Woods, a senior, won the 100m (10.65) and 200m (21.67). He also ran a leg on Wossman's winning 4x100m (42.05) and 4x200m (1:28) teams.

Woods is ranked No. 1 in the 100m in Class 3A and No. 11 overall. In the 200m, Woods is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A and No. 7 overall. Both of Wossman's sprint relay teams are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.

"Honestly, it (performance at district meet) was OK," Woods said. "I'm hoping to improve the next two weeks."

Woodhead tripled in the distance events. It started with a win in the 1600m (5:57). From there, Woodhead won both the 800m (2:35) and 3200m (3:28). To start her meet off, Woodhead ran a leg on Sterlington's winning 4x800m team (11:10).

"Andie has had a great year," Coach David Jansen said. "She worked hard and her times have constantly gotten better. To go out and win four golds at the district meet shows what kind of competitor she is."

The best part for Jansen and the Lady Panther program is that Woodhead is just a freshman.

Sterlington was the runner-up in the boys division, and Wossman was the runner-up in the girls division.

Woods and Woodhead will now lead their team in the Region I-3A Meet at ULM which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 26.
