LHSAA XC State Meet Preview: Boys

DIVISION IV

Much like Division V, we will most definitely see a close race, but this may not be for the state title. The favorite for the championship position looks to lean in Episcopal of Acadiana's favor, but the runner-up position could go either way for D'Arbonne Woods and St. Martin's Episcopal.

St. Martin's has the chance to sneak someone into the top ten with Blake Verdigets, but the rest of this team is spread thin. Their best hope is to place as many men as possible between the gap of D'Arbonne Woods' runners.

D'Arbonne Woods has great frontend energy with the likes of Trent Futch, Cris Velasquez, and Eric Ramsey. This trio is essential for the success of this program, however,  there is a question as to whether another runner, Rocky Velasquez, is a duplicate name that we have seen. Perhaps it was an entry for Cris under a nickname, or maybe it is another runner on the Wolve's roster. We have not seen either Cris or Rocky compete in the same race, so we assume that this is an alternate name, however, if this is truly another runner, this could give D'Arbonne Woods an opportunity to snatch a division title.

Episcopal of Acadiana looks like a rational favorite for this race. It rivals D'Arbonne's potential to place three runners within the top ten, however, the gap between this team's 1-5 will not allow other teams much of an opportunity to capitalize on any mistakes. Not to mention an interchangeable sixth runner on this squad that provides an extra layer of security for this team.

William Brown at the Jack Schommer meet

Some individuals to look out for from Region 2 include Noah Gad of Holy Savior Menard and Sullivan Hannah of Rosepine. These two duked it out at their regional meet and Sullivan came through for the win. This is not the first time that Sullivan has toppled Gad this season, so it could be a safe bet for Sullivan to take the individual title.

From Region 3, there is yet another rivaling duo. This consists of Brady Sins of Houma Christian and Reese Davis of Dunham. These two butted heads at the regional qualifier and were only separated by 0.3 seconds. Not to mention, that they also came within two seconds of William Brown of Episcopal of Acadiana. All of these individuals listed prior have a fair chance to land themselves on the podium this coming Monday.
