Centenary Cross Country Runners Perform Well

SHREVEPORT – At the annual Centenary Invitational, both the Ladies and Gents ran well on Saturday morning. Junior Adam Nerio (28.59) finished third and freshman Brittany Wilkens (26.25) had a fourth place showing, which was her fourth top five finish of the season.

 

As a team, the Ladies finished first with 46 points, Louisiana-Lafayette was second (50 points), Louisiana Tech and East Texas Baptist tied for third (86 points), Northwestern State was fourth (89 points) and Louisiana College placed fifth (155 points)

 

Also running well for the Ladies was Cara Miccoli, who finished just three hundredths of second behind Wilkens. Mellynn Baker (27.19) and Sunny LaGrone (27.21) placed 10th and 11th respectively to help Centenary’s cause.

 

Rounding out Centenary’s runners were Natalie Holcomb, (28.09) who finished 16th, Jessica Brown (28.19) was in 17th place, Jacquelyn Batson (28.25) finished 18th and Ashley Fallin (29.38) was 22nd.

 

On the men’s side, NSU won (22 points), Centenary (33 points) finished second and ETBU (90 points) placed third. Louisiana College did not qualify for a team score, because they only had two runners.

 

The Gents had five top 10 runners with Nerio leading Centenary, and following the San Antonio, Texas, native was Adam Walton (29.41), who finished fifth.

 

Behind Walton was Robert Poole (30.05) and Michael Haydel (30.29), who placed seventh and eighth, while Chris Patterson (31:41) finished in 10th place. Centenary’s final runner of the morning was Jonathan Martin (33.11), who placed 13th and was just two seconds from a top 10 finish.

 

The next action for Centenary will be on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Chile Pepper Invitational hosted by Arkansas.
