Tech Track Starts Well in 2007 Championships



BOISE, Idaho -- Louisiana Tech’s indoor track and field squad competed in its first of two days for the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships which will wrap up tomorrow.

“I was very pleased with day one,” Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. “We’re definitely looking forward to tomorrow.”

Any athlete that finishes in the top three positions in his or her event earns an All-WAC honor for the season.

For Tech, it would be junior Nadia Alexander in the shot put, who placed second with a throw of 52 feet, 6.50 inches along with senior Matt Craig, who finished third in the men’s long jump at 24-00.75. Sophomore Michael Coleman finished second in the men’s 200 with a time of 21.31 seconds.

On another positive note, in the men’s 5000, Tech junior Zach Schuler took a fifth place finish to score Tech’s men’s team much needed points on the night.
Tech also had a host of good finishes in the preliminaries and will run in the finals tomorrow.

The 2007 WAC Championships will finish tomorrow.
