Walker boys; St. Thomas Aquinas girls win Battlefield XC Festival

1st Annual BRASF Battlefield XC Festival 9/28/2012

Despite heavy down pours of rain during the meet, over 1000 runners battled it out on the grounds of the Port Hudson Historical Battlefield Site. A course layout for approx 75% trail, 25% open area grass quickly became standing water and heavy mud after two hours of heavy rains during the meet.

In the Varsity Girls 3 mile race, Bobby Amar (St. Thomas Aq.) and Addie Burleigh (Catholic PC) led through the 1st mile. As the leaders pasted 2 miles, St. Michael’s Haley Gregoire took over the lead and never let up. Gregoire won the girls title with a time of 22:19, followed by Haley Burleigh (Catholic PC) 22:37 2nd, Bobbi Amar (STA) 22:54 3rd, Allie Stone (St. Michael) 22:55 4th, Destiny Williams (STA) 23:15 5th.The St. Thomas Aquinas Lady Falcons captured the team title with 47 points, St. Michael’s placing 2nd- 79, Catholic PC 3rd- 87.

In the Boys Varsity 3 mile race, 16 teams battled on the muddied course in the final race of the day. Leading through the one mile mark at 5:28 were 2011 3A State XC Champion , Jacob Chicola (Buckeye), Brady Warren (Walker) and Tommy Brocato (St. Thomas Aq.). Brady Warren moved to the lead after the mile and with Chicola giving chase. At two miles, Jacob Chicola surged to the lead briefly, but Warren proved to be too much retaking the lead and opening a 15 second gap over the final 800m. Brady Warren(Walker) was the boys champion in 17:20, Jacob Chicola (Buckeye) 17:35 2nd , Tommy Brocato (STA) 18:00 3rd, Noah Ymartin (Northshore) 18:21 4th, Landon Hazel (Walker) 18:28 5th.

The Walker Wildcats win the boys team title scoring 51 points, Catholic High BR placing 2nd- 61 points, and St. Thomas Aquinas 3rd- 78 points.
