LA Tech Mook 4 Invitational Recap

Northwestern Press Release:

RUSTON – Mitch Landry and Sarah Emory were the leaders for the Northwestern State cross country teams once again on Saturday morning as the Demons and Lady Demons competed in the Louisiana Tech Mook 4 Invitational.

Along with host team Louisiana Tech, the NSU teams competed against Texas Arlington, Grambling, LeTourneau College, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State.

Both the men's and women's teams took third place overall.

The men fell behind Texas Arlington and La Tech. while the women were outrun by UTA and Miss. Valley State.

Miss. Valley State edged out the Lady Demons by just one point.

“We didn't run our full squad on either the men or women's side,” said coach Adam Malloy.  “So, given the circumstances our score reflects a pretty good showing for the team.

“It's a little disappointing for the women to lose to Mississippi Valley St. by one point but without Becca and Aly in the line up we are completely different team. A full and healthy team could match up very well against Arlington's women.”

Landry took 12th place, running the 6,400-meter course in 20:14. Alex Hebert ran second for the NSU men, placing 18th in 20:43. Jeremy Elliot was the third runner for the Demons, finishing the course in 21:24 and placing 26th.

Other runners for the men's team include Matt Rodell (21:36, 28th), John Broughton (21:47, 29th) and Chris Lanier (22:50, 39th)

Emory finished the women's 4,000-meter course in 13:21, placing sixth overall. Karensa Ellis ran second for the Lady Demons with a time of 13:56 and finished 11th overall. Ali Fontenot rounded out the top three on the women's team, running the course in 14:04 and placing 13th.

Erin Knox (15:34, 26th), Maya Robertson (15:42, 27th) and Tammy Taylor (16:19, 33rd) also competed for the Lady Demons.

The Northwestern State teams take a couple weeks off before they host their first home meet of season. The Northwestern State Invitational will be held at Demon Hills Golf Course on Oct. 1.
