ULL\'s Istre and Collins Run Well at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE– Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns had several strong individual performances Saturday, at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette.


\"We had some people run well today and our goal is to get better each time we go out to compete," said Head Coach Lance Veazey.


Freshman sprinter Michael Istre had a busy day for the Cajuns. Istre placed third in the 200-meter dash at 21.42 and fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.59.


Freshman Joshua Falgout won the men's 10,000-meter run with a time of 33.21. Justin Lemaire placed third in the 5,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 15.49. D.J. Hebert placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:05.


In the men's field events, sophomore Tony Vaccarella finished second in the high jump with a mark of 6-04.00


Sophomore Jasmine Collins had a big day for the Cajuns women. Collins finished third in the 800-meter run at 2:21 and placed sixth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:04. Freshman Casey Zeller had a strong running in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 1:05.48.


Casey Brown placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:26. Suzanne Boudreaux ran a time of 41:24 in the 10,000-meter run, earning her a third place finish.


In the women's field events, Kayla Vice placed third in the pole vault with a mark at 10-06.00. Latoya Celestine finished sixth in the long jump at 18-03.75.


"We are a very young team, but as long as we work hard we have a chance to compete," added Veazey.


The Cajuns will travel to Baton Rouge March 24-25, to compete in the LSU Relays.
