Canchola and Couthren pull in victories at SE Louisiana track meet

 

HAMMOND – Thomas Canchola doubled up with a victory in the men's shot put to lead McNeese State during the Southeastern Louisiana track and field invitational Friday.

Canchola, who had won the hammer throw on Thursday, added the shot put title to his credit with a career best toss of  54-11.25.

He and Lewi Manirumva who won the 3000 meter run were the only Cowboy champs during the meet while the Cowgirls had a champion in Desarae Couthren in the 100 hurdles and a school record from the 4x100 meter relay team of Mariah Georgetown, Ashleigh Wells, Paige Lynch and Jacqueline Berry

Canchola's toss in the shot is the longest by a Cowboy this season and is also the fourth longest in McNeese history.

Manirumva took the 3000 meters in an 8:48.99 clocking, also the fastest by a McNeese performer this spring.

For the Cowgirls, Couthren posted a career best 13.97 time in winning the 100 meter hurdles and the 4x100 relay team ran a second place 45.87 to break the school record of 46.07 that had been set by the same foursome at the Florida Relays only a couple of weeks ago.

Other top five performances for the Cowgirls came from Wells with a fifth place in the 100 meters (12.17), a third place by Allison Crawford (4:56.47), a fourth by Jillian Biagini (4:56.56) and a fifth by Lauren Cooper (4:56.59) all in the 1500 meters, a third by Jasmine George (14.53) in the 100 hurdles, a third by Kayla Fontenot (5-2.50) in the high jump, a fourth by Alyssa Cotton (10-11.75) in the pole vault, a second by Berry in the triple jump (39-8) and a third by Haley Carrier (129-7) in the javelin.

The only other Cowboys in the top five  were Parminder Singh with a third in the high jump (6-6.75), Quinten Marsh with a fifth in the shot put (39-7.25) and  Gabe Hamner with a fourth in the triple jump (44-11).

Also, the 4x100 meter relay team of Morgan Wells, Tevon Remo, Robert Graham and Torian Lindsey finished third with a 42.13 clocking and the foursome of football players Wallace Scott, Deajon Mitchell, Darius Carey and Diontae Spencer placed fifth with a 43.21 time.
