Lady Demon 4x400 relay unit blazes to win at LSU

BATON ROUGE – Together for the first time this season, the Northwestern State women’s 4x400 relay team ran away from the field with a winning 3:48.86 mark that was more than five seconds ahead of the second-fastest time Friday night at the LSU Twilight indoor track and field meet in the Carl Maddox Field House.
 
Lady Demon veterans Consuela Lindsy, Constance Seibles, Quiana Griffin and Lawana Perkins posted the second-fastest time by a Southland Conference foursome this season heading into next weekend’s SLC Indoor Championships. Seibles competed for the first time this season last week but didn’t run the 4x400 until Friday night.
 
NSU triple jumper Wayne Douglas was the top collegiate finisher while going nearly two feet farther than his previous best with a 50-4 leap that got him fifth overall. Two-time USA Olympian Walter Davis won with a 54-7 ½ jump.
 
The Lady Demons got two big improvements while finishing 3-4-6 in the women’s shot. Keona Jackson’s third-place 45-11 ¼ was 14 inches past her previous best. Chantel Bratton bettered her previous best by 11 inches and was right behind with a 45-10 ¾ mark. Teammate Janae Allen took sixth at 42-0.
 
Jackson also had a new best in the weight throw, marking 56-0 for third place. Bratton was eighth at 51-3.
 
The Demons added another Southland meet qualifier when high jumper Jordan Clark cleared 6-5, three inches better than his previous best.
 
The Demons’ 4x400 relay team had its best mark of the season, taking third place with a 3:20.22 clocking by D.J. Beyette, Dezrick Williams, Lawrence Jackson and Keenan Jackson.
 
In the women’s triple jump, the Lady Demons were 7-8 with Jessica Tillery (36-5 ¾) and Sarah Jones (35-7 ¼). Jones was eighth in the long jump (17-8 ¾).
 
Additional eight-place finishes came from  Nathanial McReynolds with a 9:43.34 time in the 3000; Ali Fontenot, running 11:37.77 in the women’s 3000; and Brent Giddens, posting a season-best 8.36 in the 60 meter hurdles.  P.J. Bennett took ninth in the hurdles with a subpar 9.93 clocking.
