Loyola Track Team Concludes Indoor Season

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans track team concluded their indoor season yesterday at the McNeese Jeff Davis Bank Indoor Invitational. The event hosted by McNeese State took place inside the Ralph O. Ward Rec-Complex.

Sarah Tortorich, Raquel Derganz-Baker, William Maye, and Tucker Scott competed in the 200m and 400m dash. Tortorich recorded times of 28.09 and 1:02.49, Derganz-Baker clocked in at 29.70 and 1:08.07, Scott notched 27.32 and 58.91, and Maye with times of 27.72 and 1:00.05

Elysia Pendezec and Mario Ramirez ran in the 800m race and accomplished times of 2:53.55 and 2:12.40 respectively.

Sophomore Vanessa Righeimer led the women in the one mile run with a time of 5:44.81, as Denise Powell (6:01) and Elizabeth Gienger (6:02) followed suit. Chris Graugnard and Galen Westerfield represented the Wolfpack men in the same event. Graugnard posted a time of 5:08.23 while Westerfield posted 5:21.65.

Righeimer, Gienger, and Powell also competed in the 3000m event where they recorded times of 11:19, 12:16, and 12:39 respectively. Joining them on the men’s side were Michael Corso (9:39.18), Dylan DiMartino (10:20.27), and Graugnard (10:29.35).

Finally, freshman Carlos Flores made his Wolfpack track debut, throwing 31-10.75 feet in the shot put.

“The team showed a good effort on a challenging indoor track. The runners were not allowed to wear spikes and most of them found it difficult to keep their footing,” stated Loyola head track coach Andy Canegitta. “This wraps up our indoor portion of the schedule, and it was a good competitive experience in preparation for the outdoor season.”

The outdoor season begins March 10 when the Wolfpack compete in the Southern Mississippi Invitational in Hattiesburg.
