BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Nicholls women's track and field team began the indoor season at the Birmingham Ice Breaker today, as freshman Ingvild Vedde came in first in the women's 1-mile run for the first Colonels individual title of the season.
Vedde's time of 5:06.79 is now the second best mark all-time at Nicholls, following up a stellar cross country season.
Finishing third in the 400-meter dash, Barlitra Dirance set a new Nicholls record in the event clocking in at 58.44 seconds, seven seconds better than the old mark that stood since 2002.
Kreyshelle Rolle claimed fourth in the women's 60-meter hurdles, and her time of 8.99 seconds is now second all-time at Nicholls.
All three in the first meet have qualified for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
The distance medley relay team of Ashley Johnson, Jackie White, Victoria Williams and Vedde finished third in the race in 3:58.97, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Dirance, Jonae McAllister, Rolle and Williams finished fourth in 3:58.97.
