Larry Jones Advances to NCAA Championships with Second-Best Throw in East Prelims

 

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Louisiana Tech senior Larry Jones recorded the second-best discus mark at the NCAA East Preliminary Round and freshman Trey Hadnot finished 10th overall in 200m as the pair out of Ruston High School both qualified for the NCAA Championships Saturday.

Jones threw a personal best mark of 187-10 (57.26m) to finish second overall in the East Preliminary Round, held on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington. Jones became the fourth Tech athlete to advance to the NCAA Championships, set for June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Earlier in the day, Hadnot ran 21.19 in the 200m NCAA quarterfinals, placing 10th and also advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Hadnot also was a member of the men's 4x100m relay team that finished 17th with a time of 40.92, joining Dennis RichardsonJosh Goree and Terry Carter on the track.

On the women's side, Micara Vassell finished 38th in the discus with a throw of 144-5 (44.02m).

Jones and Hadnot join Chelsea Hayes( long jump) and Monique Wright (400m) as Louisiana Tech athletes moving on to the NCAA Championships.
