Track and Field Closes Stay at NCAA East Regional

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On the final day of the 2011 NCAA East Regional track and field meet the Green Wave walked away from the competition hosted by Indiana University with some much valued experience. The Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex saw as one Green Wave student-athlete advanced to the NCAA National Meet and five others gained some championship experience in the process.

"All of our student-athletes have gained some valuable experience from today," said Tulane head coach Eric Peterson. "This experience will benefit all of them as they move forward in their careers. That is what we are taking away from this meet. Now that the East Regional is behind us, we are celebrating the result of Ana (Ruzevic) qualifying for nationals and having an opportunity to do well in that meet in just week in a half. I think that we showed some improvement from last season and we look to continue to improve our program."

On the final day of competition, Tulane competed in the 4x100-meter relay and finished with a time of 46.44 to claim 22nd place in the event. The Green Wave watched as a pair of freshman and two sophomores took to the lanes as the youngest team in the competition - with Jacksonville State sending the same combination on the track and finishing 17th.

Jerica BanksTiffany GeorgeHilary Woods and Tiffanie Smith passed the baton to one and other and covered the distance in sixth fastest time of the season.

The Green Wave will send just one athlete to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines on June 8-11, with Ana Ruzevic competing in the javelin for the second straight season.
