Louisiana Tech Track and Field Opens Season at Leonard Hilton Invitational Friday

HOUSTON - Louisiana Tech will begin its 2011 track and field campaign in Houston Friday, competing at the Leonard Hilton Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.

Despite losing one of the most talented and inspiring athletes in school history to graduation - Antoinette Cobb - the women's team is still loaded with 11 seniors and is looking to continue its stretch of championships. Currently in the middle of a dynasty run, the Lady Techsters have won 11 of the last 12 WAC titles including the last six consecutive outdoor championships. Only the 2007 WAC Indoor title fell through the Lady Techsters grasps.

The Lady Techsters have a loaded roster this season with 11 seniors, the last three WAC "Outstanding Championship Meet Performers" in Chasidee Lewis-BakerStacia Hanneman and Quanisha Sales. Sales, who dominated the league in her freshman season last year, advanced as far as the USA Junior National Championships in late June.

The men's team enters the season as well-rounded as ever and has the tools in place to make 2011 a memorable season for the Bulldogs. Sophomore Matt Wolfe leads a talented group of middle distance runners with Josh Goree, the 2010 WAC Freshman of the Year, is primed to have a complete and successful year in 2011.

Head coach Gary Stanley is entering his 29th year at Louisiana Tech with this being his 23rd year as head coach. Stanley has amassed 19 Coach of the Year titles by his conference peers and has seen 22 conference championships in four different conferences, including 19 conference titles at Louisiana Tech with 17 as head coach.
