Local Middle School Athletes Shine at League Track & Field Championships
Shreveport-area middle school athletes delivered an exciting and competitive day of track and field action as competitors from across Caddo Parish showcased their speed, strength, and endurance in both League I and League II championship events.
Sprint Events Highlight Elite Speed
In the Girls League I 100-meter final, Julianna Wyndon of Youree Drive Middle School sprinted to victory with a time of 13.71, edging out Sa'Riyah Rogers of Caddo Middle Magnet and teammate Lailah Mott. The boys' race proved even tighter, with Willie Collins of Ridgewood Middle School narrowly winning in 11.89, just ahead of Caden Stewart of Youree Drive.
League II competition featured standout performances from Kamori Anderson of Turner Middle School, who dominated the girls' 100 meters in 13.14, while De'Alrick Hill of North Caddo Elementary/Middle School claimed the boys' title in 12.26.
The 200-meter races brought more impressive finishes. Mykayla Baker of Caddo Middle Magnet took the League I girls crown, while Major Jackson, also of Caddo Middle Magnet, powered to victory in the boys' race. In League II, Marci Jordan (Herndon Magnet) and Destyn Gray (Donnie Bickham Middle School) led their respective fields.
Distance Runners Show Endurance
Distance events showcased determination and grit. Zoey Ohr of Caddo Middle Magnet captured the League I girls' 1600-meter title in 6:07.94, while Caleb Nissley of Youree Drive edged a close finish in the boys' race.
In League II, Gabriela Smith of Donnie Bickham Middle School secured the girls' 1600-meter win, while James Easley of Walnut Hill Elementary/Middle School led the boys' field.
The 800-meter races were equally competitive, with Mary Mack Thornton (Caddo Middle Magnet) and Aedan Shonder (Caddo Middle Magnet) claiming League I titles. League II winners included Serenity Shanks (Walnut Hill) and Kingston Simmons (Donnie Bickham).
Hurdles and Field Events Deliver Thrills
Hurdles competition featured razor-thin margins. In the League I girls' 100m hurdles, Jazzmine Jackson of Fair Park won in 20.80, just ahead of Za'Riyah Smith and SamJihya Jefferson in a near three-way finish. Jamison Jones of Broadmoor STEM Academy captured the boys' title.
Kamori Anderson continued her strong showing by winning the League II girls' hurdles, while Mycah Fields of Donnie Bickham dominated the boys' race.
Field events highlighted the athletes' versatility. Drew Bailey of Youree Drive Middle School swept both the discus and shot put in League I girls competition, while Kaden Williams (Youree Drive) did the same on the boys' side. In League II, strong performances came from Sara Rollin and Heaven Cabrera, who tied for first in the girls' discus.
High jump and long jump events added to the excitement, with standout performances from MaKayla Nichols (Caddo Middle Magnet) and Major Jackson, who each claimed victories in their respective divisions.
Relay Teams Bring the Energy
Relay races capped the meet with high-energy performances and team camaraderie. Caddo Middle Magnet dominated the League I girls' relays, winning the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 events. On the boys' side, Youree Drive Middle School took the 4x100 title, while Keithville Middle School won the 4x200 and Caddo Middle Magnet captured the 4x400.
In League II, Turner Middle School's girls claimed both the 4x100 and 4x200 titles, while North Caddo Elementary/Middle School's boys proved dominant, winning the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relays.
A Showcase of Emerging Talent
The championship meet highlighted the depth of talent across local middle schools, with many athletes competing in multiple events and delivering standout performances. From explosive sprints to endurance races and technical field events, the competition reflected both individual excellence and strong team efforts.
As these young athletes continue to develop, the future of track and field in the Shreveport area looks exceptionally bright.
