Cross Country Competes at SEC Championships

 FORT JACKSON, S.C. -- The LSU men's and women's cross country teams claimed ninth and 11th-place finishes, respectively, at the 2010 SEC Cross Country Championships in Fort Jackson, S.C.

 
Arkansas took home the men's team title, blowing away the competition. The Razorbacks garnered 34 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Alabama which finished with 62 points.
 
Florida won the women's title with 60 points, edging second-place Arkansas by one point.
 
Ole Miss' Barnabas Kirui claimed the men's individual title with an 8k time of 23 minutes, 52.07 seconds. Meanwhile, Kristie Kruger of Georgia placed first in the women's 6k race, clocking a 20:41.25.
 
The LSU men were led once again by senior Richard Chautin who finished in 24th-place with a time of 25:02.01.
 
"Richard finishing in the top 30 is a great accomplishment," LSU cross country coach Mark Elliott said. 
 
Seniors Tim Landry and Alan Sticker and junior Cullen Doody each finished in the top 60. Landry ran a 26:20.35, Sticker clocked a 26:23.93 and Doody finished with a time of 26:30.74.
 
"Tim, Alan and Cullen all ran well," said Elliott. "Alan had probably the best performance of his season."
 
Junior Laura Carleton paced the Lady Tigers, clocking a 22:07.96 and placing 37th.
 
The sophomore foursome of Charlene LipseyLeigh-Ann Naccari, and Brea and Dakota Goodman followed behind for the women's team. Lipsey placed 52nd with a time of 22:34.86. Meanwhile, Naccari clocked a 23:03.41, while Dakota and Brea Goodman finished with respective times of 23:04.48 and 23:10.93.
 
"The women ran well," Elliott said. "Laura CarletonCharlene Lipsey and the Goodman twins had great races. I was also pleased with Leigh-Ann Naccari. She stepped up and had a good run."
 
The LSU cross country teams return to action next Saturday, Nov. 13, when they head to Waco, Texas, for the NCAA South Central Regional.
