Cross Country Teams Second at MSU Invitional

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The LSU men's and women's cross country teams opened up their seasons Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational, with both teams finishing in second place.

Host Mississippi State took home both titles. The Tiger men and women followed the Bulldogs, finishing with 64 and 67 points, respectively.

Senior Richard Chautin returned from a redshirt season to lead the men and take home the individual title with a time of 24:41.13. Senior Tim Landry and junior Cullen Doody also had strong performances for the Tigers. Landry finished eighth, clocking a 26:01.56, while Doody rounded out the top 10 in 26:26.18.

"I think that's a pretty good effort for the first meet of the year," LSU cross country coach Mark Elliott said." I was very proud of the effort by the men. Richard obviously ran extremely well."

The LSU women were led by junior Laura Carleton who finished in fourth place with a time of 18:44.10. Dakota and Brea Goodman also placed inside the top 10 for the women. Dakota completed the course in 18:57.60, finishing sixth, while her sister Brea followed in seventh place, clocking a 19:03.40.

"The women ran well for the first meet," said Elliott. "Mississippi State is a good team to judge yourself against, and I thought we did well."

LSU heads home for its first and only home meet of the season on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Highland Road Park.
