ULM Men and Women Sweep Cross Country Titles at UL Lafayette Invitational

 LAFAYETTE, La. – The ULM men’s and women’s cross country team both took home first-place on Friday evening (Sept. 17) at the UL Lafayette Invitational. Moses Chelimo led a sweep of the top-four places for the Warhawk men, finishing in a time of 19:33, while Madeleine Robertson claimed first for the ULM women, finishing with a time of 15:30. 

Chelimo crossed the finish line more than a minute ahead of the field in the men’s 6,000-meter race, followed by three of his Warhawk teammates. Seth Hall earned second with a time of 20:42, Jorel Torres was third in 20:49 and Devin Caldwell finished in fourth, clocking in at 20:52. Jacob Heckford also earned a top-10 finish for ULM, taking 10th with a time of 23:05.

The Warhawks dominated the team competition, scoring 20 points to earn first-place in the meet. UL Lafayette was second with 51 points, Xavier (New Orleans) was third with 53 and Southern earned fourth with 86 points. 

On the women’s side, Robertson was eight seconds ahead of second-place Paula Parker of UL Lafayette in earning the victory in the women’s 4K race. A pair of Warhawks, Denise Myers and Tyler Blacklock, were the next two across the line. Myers finished third in 15:40 and Blacklock was fourth with a time of 15:50. Lauren Rosson was the fourth Warhawk to finish in the top-10, taking ninth-place with a time of 16:52. Ariana Jones also scored for ULM, earning 15th-place with a time of 17:16.

ULM was victorious in the women’s team event by five points over UL Lafayette. The Warhawks scored 32 points while the second-place Ragin’ Cajuns scored 37. Southern earned third-place with 72 points and Xavier (New Orleans) was fourth with 82 points.

The Warhawks return to action next Saturday (Sept. 25) when they compete in the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
