Northwestern\'s Henry\'s win among four regional qualifiers at LSU meet for NSU

BATON ROUGE -- Southland Conference track and field \"Athlete of the Week\" J.D. Henry gave Northwestern State its only win Saturday at the LSU Relays as he clocked an NCAA Mideast Regional qualifying time of 14.12 in the the men\'s 110 meter hurdles.

That was among four NCAA regional qualifying performances by Northwestern competitors in the meet at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium. A partial team of NSU athletes took part in the meet which came during spring break week for Northwestern students.

Rayvn Hayward improved his regional ranking with a 10.41 time in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash, shaving .08 off his season\'s best, but didn\'t improve in the finals and finished with a sixth-place 10.64 clocking.

Tamesia Miller posted a regional qualifying time of 13.90 in the women\'s 100 meter hurdles prelims, then finished fourth in the final with a 14.55 time.

Cody Fillinich didn\'t improve his regional ranking in the men\'s javelin but finished second with a 205-8 throw as he exceeded the regional standard for a third straight week.

Derrion Harris had a season-best 6-8 3/4 clearance that earned him second in the men\'s high jump, with Drake\'s Jaron Van Maanen winning at the same height in a jump-off with Harris.

The Demons 800 meter sprint medley team of Marcus Gatlin, Henry, Marcus Pitre and Jeffrey Parker ran second, a half-second behind LSU, with a 1:30.49 time.
