UNO Women Eighth; Men Ninth at Sun Belt Indoor Track & Field Championships

JONESBORO, Ark. (Feb. 28, 2005) – The University of New Orleans women's track and field team finished eighth with 38 points, while the men accumulated 22 points for ninth place at the 2005 Aeropostale Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships that concluded Monday at the Convocation Center.

Vicki Howard was the top Privateer finisher on the day with a second place showing in the 55 meter hurdles. Howard's time of 8.01 earned the squad eight points and was .05 behind Candice Robertson of Middle Tennessee. Priscilla Chapu took third in the 400 meter dash for seven points by crossing the finish line in 56.18.

A pair of Privateers tallied points in the 800 meter run. Caroline Hulden amassed three points, while Angela Makaha earned one with their respective times of 2:20.17 and 2:22.63. Vanessa Cheatham scored for the second consecutive day with a toss of 14.47 meters in the 20-lb. weight throw. Her eighth place performance scored a point for the squad. The women's 4x400 meter relay team took third with a mark of 3:53.22 to score the final six points of the day.

Robert Delmore led the men's squad with a double scoring afternoon. Delmore notched 12 points for the Privateers with a pair of fourth place finishes in the 55 (6.45) and 200 meter (21.80) dashes. Terrance Wills also scored twice on the day as he took sixth in the 400 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash. His times of 49.09 and 22.26 collected four points for UNO. Olivier Monfort also claimed eighth in the 400 meter run with a mark of 49.37 to earn one point.

Bradley Rose finished up a strong season with a mark of 7.52 in the 55 meter hurdles. Rose's sixth place showing was just .21 behind first place finisher Gregory Belger of Arkansas State. The men's 4x400 meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 3:20.33 to score the final two points of the day.

New Orleans concludes their indoor track and field season, but the outdoor season gets underway on March 12 as the Privateers host the UNO Invitational at Tad Gormley Stadium.
