Track and Field Has Impressive Day at Florida State Twilight

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Tulane track and field program sent the women's portion of their squad to Tallahassee to compete in the Florida State Twilight on Saturday (May 8), as the Green Wave posted a handful of season-best performances. Tulane won a pair of events and had eight new season-best times set on the day at the Mike Long Track on the Florida State campus.

"We had some very good, significant individual performances and it was good to see our 4x100 relay team improve as much as we did," said Tulane head coach Eric Peterson. "I have had a feeling that our sprinters have been ready to perform well and they certainly came out today and did that. The number of season and lifetime best improvements mean they are peaking well. I am satisfied with today's performances, but we want to continue to improve and come up with our best performances of the season at the Conference USA meet."

During the open session of the meet, Adiyah Crute posted a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a person-best time of 14.53. In the 400, Danielle Pensack lowered her PR in the event to 58.23 with a third place finish. Kasey Rodgers took the Open title in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.81 seconds, to post her top time of the season in the event.

The Olive and Blue capped the first session of events with a one-two finish in the 200-meter dash, with Rodgers and Tiffanie Smith grabbing the top two spots. The duo each posted their best times of the season in the race, with Rodgers winning in a time of 24.72 and Smith grabbing second in 24.76. 

 

Olivia Kizzee posted a third place finish to open the Elite portion of the meet, a portion of the meet that participants must qualify with pre-set times, as she posted her third fastest time of the year with an 11.59 showing. Kizzee posted he second fasted time of 2010 later in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 24.25-seconds.

Jamie Riles saw her first competition of the season at the 400-meter distance and nabbed the individual crown with a 55.49 mark. It is the top time for the Green Wave this season in the event, while Jerica Banks posted a 57.57 time in the event to finish fourth.

Candice St. Etienne posted her top mark of the season in the 400-meter hurdles as she posted a fourth place finish in the finals. The freshman came across with a time of 1:03.73 to eclipse her previous time by nearly two seconds.
