BATON ROUGE - Junior distance runner Kadi Whisnant clocked in just over two seconds off the school record pace for the indoor mile and sophomore sprinter Samantha Calhoun clocked in under 7.70 in the 60 m dash for the fifth time in five meets this season as the Nicholls State University women's track and field team concluded it's pre-conference indoor slate at the LSU Twilight Meet on Friday.
The Colonels started strong as hurdler Rahjanaye Bailey shaved 0.09 seconds off her season-best 60 m hurdle time by clocking in at 9.21.
Whisnant followed by winning the mile with a first-place time of 5:09.58, 2.55 seconds behind Brea Goodman's two week old school record. Whisnant's performances gives Nicholls two of the Southland Conference's top ten times in the indoor mile heading into the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships next week.
The Colonel distance crew added to it's accolades later in the evening as bothBrea Goodman (6th, 10:29.66) and Lauren Jones (9th, 10:32.88) posted top ten finishes in the women's 3K.
Calhoun provided the Colonels' next round of highlights on the day. After leading the Nicholls sprint group by advancing to the finals of the 60 M dash, Calhoun clocked in a 7.67 in the finals of the 60 to take seventh place. In the five meets in which she has competed this season, Calhoun has posted five times under 7.70.
The Colonels will now prepare for the 2010 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend at the University of Oklahoma..
